I'm going to let a day go by before I try to make some sense out of the political horse race. In
the meantime, I'm taking a cue from my cat Kitty, who considers such matters as mortages, taxes, and
politicans with sleepy indifference.
All cat lovers know that cats communicate with their tails. Here is my feline lexicon, accumulated
after a lifetime of observation of these cleanly creatures who are generally more attached to places than people.
1. Tail straight up.
"Here I am. Catch me if you can."
2. Tail sweeping wildly side to side and sometimes rotating.
"I'm ecstatic."
3. Tail horizontal moving slowly.
"I'm exploring."
4. Tail horizontal not moving.
"I'm ready to pounce."
5. Tail sideways brushing against your leg.
"I WUV you!"
6. Tail not moving but tip moving slowly.
"I'm thinking about something you said last week that hurt me badly."
7. Tail drooping.
"I'm pathetic. Feed me."
8. Tail straight up and twitching.
"What's going on? Huh? Huh? What is it?"
9. Tail swish and thump.
"I'm starting to get really annoyed."
10. Tail straight up, given one or two solid jerks towards the back, usually while stalking away.
"Bye! I'm off to do what I want to do!"
Cats enrich our life and life would indeed be poorer without these wonderful creatures.
